Program Design
Based on a thorough research evaluation design, the Connecting Worlds/Mundos Unidos program utilizes a dual language immersion model in which two groups of identified GT students, both native English-speaking and Spanish-speaking children, share the same rich learning environment. The program students receive a gifted and talented curriculum delivered 50% in English and 50% in Spanish. The 50/50 model is delivered at the elementary level for all core subjects. At the middle school level, the GT Humanities, GT Advanced Math, and GT Science Technology courses are delivered in both English and Spanish. In addition, the students are enrolled in advanced-level Spanish classes. Ninth grade students qualify for the Pre-AP Spanish III courses and are offered Pre-AP/AP core and speech courses at the high school level that follow the 50/50 model. Plans are in place to offer 11th and 12th grade program students dual enrollment courses, some of which are delivered in Spanish, at the University of Texas at El Paso.
